Choral Masterworks from the French Tradition March 3, 2018

The Chorale offers an evening of choral masterworks from the French tradition, ranging from the Baroque era to the 20th century. The program features music for Passiontide, including Poulenc’s searing Quatre motets pour un temps de pénitence and Charpentier’s dramatic motet Le Reniement de StPierre; Debussy’s lighthearted Trois Chansons de Charles d’Orléans; and mesmerizing sacred works by Messiaen and Villette.  The Chorale will also present works by Anerio and Palestrina recently unearthed from the archives of the Roman church of Chiesa Sant’Ancieto. These long-lost sacred works are being prepared for a recording project exploring digital emulation of the church acoustic in which they were originally performed.
